Top Ten All Time
Favorite Book Characters
(or at least some of them)

1. Iorek Byrnison
I’m not normally the biggest fan of personified animals,
but I want Iorek to be my best friend. Not joking.

***************************************

2. Katsa
Katsa is not the only butt-kicking female on my list.
She is awesome, fierce, and mighty.
She’s also handy with weapons!

***************************************

3. Ramona Geraldine Quimby
Ramona is the coolest kid ever. She made me feel less bad about
everything stupid I did because she did it first. I still re-read these books.

***************************************

4. Prince Ash
Meet my fictional faery boyfriend, Ashallayn’ darkmyr Tallyn,
the last remaining son of Mab, Queen of the Unseelie Court.
We’re in love. He just doesn’t know it yet.

***************************************

5. Shadow
I really don’t know what else to say except this is
one of my favorite characters EVER.

***************************************

6. Kvothe
Are you kidding me? Kvothe has stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. He’s burned down the town of Trebon. He’s spent the night with Felurian and left with both his sanity and his life. He was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people have been allowed in. He’s tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. He has talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that have made minstrels weep
He may or may not own my heart right now.

***************************************

7. Percy Jackson
Puh-leez! As if Percy WOULDN’T be on my list! Whatever.
Mythology plus an awesome middle-grader.
Yes, please!
MIDDLE GRADE FOREVER!

***************************************

8. Hermione Granger
Y’all, she is so BOOKISH.

***************************************

9. The Black Dagger Brotherhood
Okay, technically this is cheating. This is really like a whole
group of characters. But they’re all really awesome and hot.
I’m allowed this one spot on the countdown for this group of dudes.
Because, like many others, I get squeally when another of these characters
gets a book/life of his own.

***************************************

10. Lisbeth Salander
This is the VERY DEFINITION of a butt-kicking female character.
She’s small but mighty. She’s smart…WAY SMARTER THAN YOU AND ME.
People have hurt her, and they will pay.

***************************************
** Todd Hewitt **
I love you, Todd. Forever.
And I love that you love Viola.

***************************************

I had to leave some off of my list
because it would have been too long!
Matilda, Anne Shirley, Laura Ingalls…

    • It's been a long time since I've read Graceling and Fire but I think I want to read them again before I read Bitterblue. I love both of those butt-kicking gals, actually. They both could've easily been on this list.

  1. Amy

Katsa and Percy foreva!!!!! Seriously. Also I need to read The Name of the Wind. Kvothe sounds like bomb!
As usual you have awesome taste. These characters all sound fabulous.

    • Kvothe is my current book boyfriend. I literally cannot say enough fabulous things about him and when I think or talk about him, my pulse actually speeds up…because I fall in love with fictional characters and I'm a dork. 🙂

  2. Ramona Quimby!!! YES. Absolutely.

& I almost put Percy but went back and forth between him and Annabeth and then ended up including neither.

  3. Katsa only narrowly was knocked off my list in favor of Karou. I'd like to do a Top Ten on just kick butt heroines, that would be fun too!

I have never read ANY of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, though I hear them referenced ALL the time, Hmmm…must check out soon.

And there is The Name of the Wind again, calling to me: "Read me, I'm here, waiting for you…" Great list Asheley!

    • A top ten on kick-butt heroines WOULD be a fun list, Heather! I'd be all for that one. Karou is awesome. That whole book is awesome.

OH THE BOYS OF THE BROTHERHOOD. *sigh*

You MUST find time to read about Kvothe. You love fantasy – you would LOVE him. If you like audiobooks, this one is a good one (it's long but SO WORTH IT!).

    • Graceling is wonderful and so is Fire, the companion book. Both of those main characters could've made my list easily. I want to re-read them before I read the third book that just came out. You MUST read Graceling soon!

  4. I haven't read Graceling yet, but I just bought it a few days ago! I'm glad to see Katsa made your list – I'm even more looking forward to reading it now! I also haven't read the Chaos Walking series but am about to start the first one. I didn't think they sounded like something I'd like, but Lisa's fangirl-ing totally convinced me to give them a chance.

HECK YES to Hermione! Confession: I didn't read the Harry Potter books until last year. I have no real reason why I didn't read them before. BUT then I started watching the movies with my husband and fell in love. So, I broke my rule and watched the movie before reading the book but OF COURSE the books were better than the movie. However, while watching the movies, my husband would get so tickled and remind me over and over that I was just like Hermione. Ha! At least I loved her as a character 🙂 I actually could have included almost all the Harry Potter characters on my list, but I restricted myself to Fred & George. I just love the twins so much!

And there's my rambling comment… hope you enjoy haha!

    • Reading the Chaos Walking trilogy is a very good thing. I really really hope you love it half as much as I love it, and I have Lisa to thank for recommending it to me. OH THOSE BOOKS!

And yay for Graceling! You know, I just love that one so much – and the companion that goes along with it, Fire. Both of those gal main characters are so, so great.

There's no Harry Potter shame! I haven't finished the series yet and I haven't yet seen the movies! I've seen bits and pieces of the first movie, that's all.

      Ramble on! I love it!

  5. LMAO! "The Black Dagger Brotherhood" Yup, that's totally cheating but I LOVE IT!!! I considered adding V to my list cause he's my FAAAAVE. 🙂 Also, Shadow!!! That man…*sigh* I totally get it. Did you listen to the 10th anniversary audiobook? The one with the full cast? His voice was delicious…but whatever you do, don't google the voice actor. DON'T DO IT! It'll ruin the image, ahaha. Also, YAY! Prince Ash. 🙂

    • I'm a little over halfway thru the audiobook I'm listening to now (28 hours!), but I want to listen to the fullcast American Gods probably next. I LOVED THAT BOOK SO MUCH.

Honestly, though, now I'm fighting with myself NOT to Google Shadow's reader. JESS!!! 😉

  6. Great list! We just read a Ramona book to our kids (my daughter is 3) and they both loved it! She is a great character. As difficult as it might have been, you made some great choices for your list!
    Lori

  7. Um… Ash did not tell me he was seeing someone else. :o( I think we all need to sit down and have a discussion because this is not cool. lol.

  8. I loved Ramona when I was younger. In one of the books she made "stilts" out of coffee cans and string and I seriously thought that was the coolest thing ever.
Percy. Freaking. Jackson! I freaking love that kid. I have a little crush on him, but I love him with Annabelle.
