Ashton Garrison walked away from a privileged life in order to hide from the one thing she’s not willing to face. She knows she left behind a trail of pain, but in the long run, her betrayal will hurt less than the truth. She now has one goal: Live life to the fullest with no regrets and no attachments. She has high hopes that a move to new surroundings will provide the escape she desires, but what Ashton doesn’t count on is how fate always seems to find a way to screw up any good plan. Sometimes, when love comes knocking, the pull is too strong not to answer. Suddenly, what she thought she wanted to escape from is what Ashton now wants more than anything.

Nathan Lockton has one mission: find his target and complete the task he was hired to do—no attachments and no emotion necessary. He’s done it over and over again. What he thought was a typical lost-and-found job has turned into a life examining moment as Nathan is forced to deal with something he has always ignored–his feelings. Now faced with a decision, Nathan must choose to either follow his heart or complete the job.

Love can come when you least expect it. The question is: If the odds are stacked against you, how far are you willing to go for the one you love?

The first thing you need to know is this:
Ashton Garrison is running.
Nathan Lockton is looking for her.
Ashton has moved to a tiny town in a remote part of the north, far from her big-city life in Florida. When the book opens, we find out that she is crossing items off of a list – right now she’s working on picking up a guy in a bar and having a bit of a tryst with him. And she sees her target – it isn’t often new guys come to this town and Ashton can’t believe her luck – he’s really good looking and definitely not from around here! Her target: Nathan Lockton.

Nathan Lockton knows Ashton even before she approaches him – he’s been hired to find her. The more time he spends buying her drinks and talking, he really thinks she’s cute…but he isn’t supposed to get attached to his work. After way too many shots, Nathan ends up taking Ashton home and putting her to bed (of course, he already knows where she lives) and nothing ends up happening. She wakes up in the morning, disappointed that she can’t cross the tryst off of her list. But OH DON’T YOU KNOW Nathan comes into the small country store where Ashton works later that day, sparks fly, and they agree to see each other a little later.

Both are excited even though neither want nor need to admit it.

The second thing you need to know is this:
Ashton and Nathan want to keep things simple:
“No Arrangements.”
Nathan knows that he’s playing a dangerous game becoming too involved with a target – he risks losing credibility in his field of work. And Ashton just doesn’t want Nathan to become too attached, to fall in love. Both know that it is probably a bad idea to see each other, but they absolutely cannot deny that they have an attraction to one another.

But every time they try to have a date, something happens. Allergic reactions, heavy rainstorms, crazy things like that. It’s like fate steps in and is doing everything possible to keep them apart. They both joke that maybe they should listen and just…stop. But still, they keep spending time together, keep trying to have those dates.

For both of them, even though they have the “No Arrangements” deal – they are really beginning to love spending time together and they can’t stand to be apart. Sounds a lot like the makings of a real relationship, doesn’t it?

The third thing you need to know is this:

BOTH HAVE SECRETS.
Big ones.
Nathan knows that he can’t keep seeing Ashton like he’s doing – not only is he deceiving her about why he’s in town but he’s been lying to the client that hired him, telling the client that he hasn’t found her yet! He needs to tell her about the fact that he was hired to find her, and he needs to do it fast. Nathan also feels like Ashton is keeping something from him – he just doesn’t know what it is.

Nathan’s right! Ashton has a secret too and BOY IS IT A WHOPPER. She isn’t exactly being honest with Nathan and the more time she spends with him, the more this dishonesty starts to eat away at her. She knows that she needs to come clean with him, and she needs to do it fast.

Big, bit secrets float around while these two fall hard for one another! What happens when the secrets come out and everything is out in the open? Will Ashton forgive Nathan for being dishonest with her, for being hired to find her? And how will Nathan feel about Ashton’s big secret?

Seriously, these two better have their mess in order,
because when the mess hits the fan – it could get ugly.

Okay, you guys, so I started reading No Attachments by Tiffany King – just enjoying it and reading along – and I thought the book was going to be another contemporary romance. I was totally okay with that – I LOVE those stories – and it started out really well. But the further into the story I got, I realized that there was much more to this story than two people hooking up having a relationship with ‘no attachments.’ These two people had real issues and lots at stake in forming their relationship and TRUE TO ASHELEY FORM, I was all kinds of invested.

Ashton Garrison is a character that I immediately liked – like Nathan, I could tell she had a secret pretty early on, but it took me a while to get a grasp on what it might be – I was okay with that suspense because it worked well within the story. Ashton has these two wonderful friends and a great boss that is like a mentor for her (hello great secondary cast!). She’s on the run from something, yes, but she’s carved out a nice life for herself in relative obscurity and she likes it that way. Once I found out her secret, I had to sort of shift gears a little bit in my reading (meaning, sniffle a time or two) but I never faulted Ashton for keeping the secrets and I understood her reasons.

Nathan Lockton. Nathan Lockton is such a sexy beast great guy. The thing I love about Nathan is that he is written in a non-sexed-up way – he is so respectful and just GOOD. He treats Ashton so well! Nathan also presented this very interesting dilemma: squash his feelings and go through with his job, his livelihood, his credibility OR go with his heart and risk losing everything? I loved how constantly-at-odds Nathan was with himself over this decision because I can imagine that in real life, it would be a tough one to make. He isn’t disrespectful. He isn’t pushy. He isn’t an alpha-male with a ton of anger issues. He is completely swoonworthy and Ashton was lucky to find him.

The characters are such fun in this story. Ashton’s friends are really funny with one-liners and spunky attitudes. Nathan is a teensy bit cocky – not enough to be icky but enough to make me chuckle a few times. And poor Ashton is about as clumsy as I am – I think she fell or tripped several times in the story and I can absolutely relate.

And WOW, after all of the secrets come out – I was shocked! I had been able to loosely make a guess at what I thought was going on, but I had no idea how everyone would handle it! There were a million ways this author could have taken this book, and I LOVE HOW SHE DID IT. What she did was take her story and keep it enjoyable to read, keep it respectful, keep it romantic, and keep me super-invested. I was cooking dinner while I was holding my Kindle because I really wanted to know NOW how it was all going to turn out. I loved the way it ended.

No Attachments will appeal to fans of New Adult Contemporary Romance, great male characters, and some issues (but I’m not spoiling it for you!). I really liked this one!

  1. For some reason, whenever a "secret" is mentioned in a book's summary, my attention is piqued! I'm curious about what Ashton's secret is, and I'm also loving the sound of their romance. Sounds like I have to check this one out!

    • Ashton's secret is one that I began to suspect JUST AS she was about to tell it, but I was pretty oblivious to it before then. It didn't bother me a bit, even though I could tell that she was hiding something. But this romance is SO GOOD. This is one book that I picked up expecting something but actually ended up getting much more – it was way more than just a romance, there was more substance to the story and I just love the way the author handled the last one-third of the book. So great! I'll absolutely be reading more by her.

  2. Honestly, I think this sounds very cute but I'm a little terrified with all the secrets. I'd probably go crazy and throw the book at the wall with all the deception, so I should probably avoid it. And yet, you make it sound SO GOOD. DILEMMA!

Anyway, fantastic review as always, Asheley! 🙂

    • Well Nathan's "secret" isn't a secret to us, it's only a secret to Ashton. We know what he's up to – but we don't really know what Ashton's deal is. I kind of liked it like that because even though it wasn't really suspenseful (I don't think it was supposed to be) it did make me try and guess a time or two and when the big reveal happened and the story shifted a little bit, I was so pleased with the direction the author took. Loved it. Great story.

  3. I've read a few of Tiffany Kings books so far. I have to say I really like them. I do have issues with a few, but I think she gets better with time. The last one I read was Miss me Not, and I enjoyed that one alot.

I read a review of No Attachments, mentioning that the sex scenes were, hmmm, I can't remember the exact wordage, but what I got out of it, was they are lacking in someway.

that's kinda a plus in my book right now, because the last few New Adult books I've read have been bordering on the lines of tacky to porno. no lie.

I won this one off the Authors facebook page, so I'm hoping to get to it soon. That's so cute that you were reading while cooking dinner. I can so picture that! 🙂
