Touch by Jus Accardo

When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

A secret Kale will kill to protect.  -(summary from Goodreads.com)

My Thoughts:  I remember seeing a trusted blogger friend’s tweets about Touch and then I read her review, and I knew that if she loved the book as much as she did then I needed to get my hands on it as soon as I possibly could. As luck would have it, I was able to borrow a copy, and I was not disappointed! Touch was everything Jacinda said it was and I had a marvelous time reading it!

Let me give you a couple of reasons why you’ll LOVE Touch too:

1. The Girl. Dez is young, beautiful, and rebellious. She misses her mother and lives to make her father mad. Dez has no idea what she has stumbled upon when Kale lands at her feet, and to be honest, she’s a little bit annoyed with him at first. As she gets to know him she not only starts to really like him – she finds out that he’s something special and she’ll do anything to protect him. Dez is a great protagonist – she is strong and brave, yet she is sometimes naive and she shares her vulnerability with the reader.

2. The Boy. Kale is super hot and more than a little odd. Strangely naive, he almost seems to be from another world. Kale has been held prisoner his entire life and forced to work, doing things that we would consider pretty awful. He has finally managed to escape, and The Denazen Corporation doesn’t plan to sit idly by while their most powerful weapon gets away. Kale’s naivete is one of his most endearing qualities. I couldn’t help but fall in love with him as he fell in love with Dez. He was so sweet and such a gentle soul, but also a deadly killing machine, and I loved this juxtaposition.

3. The Sixes. The Sixes are the group of people that have special powers that remind me of the X-Men (which I love!). There are powers of touch, controlling elements, masking identities, telekinesis…you get the idea. The Sixes have been captured and are controlled by Denazen, sometimes ending up dazed and brainwashed. They range in age from very young to much older, and they are all super interesting! Of course, in my opinion, Kale’s powers relating to touch are the coolest. Reminiscent of Rogue (from X-Men), who is one of my favorites, Kale is not only a strong character but a strong Six, and I am pretty sure other readers will love him as much as I did.

4. Paranormal. Jus Accardo has written a very interesting take on paranormal fiction. How refreshing to read something a little different and very creative! As Touch is the start of a series, I am thrilled to know that we have more to look forward to in the (hopefully) not-too-distant future!

5. Romance. Yes, there’s a romance! Kale and Dez have amazing chemistry and I won’t lie when I say that the romantic parts of the story were pretty much my favorite in the book. I’m not sure that the romance was meant to be the sole main point in this story, but it was what I looked forward to most while I was reading, and I found myself pretty attached to Kale’s character. I may have even blushed a time or two.

6. Characters. The supporting cast of secondary characters are varied and wonderful. The bad ones are really bad, the lovable ones are truly lovable, and everyone else is exactly as they should be. The mix is wonderful. Great cast.

7. Fun. This book was just plainly FUN TO READ. That is all.

This book has a little bit of everything:  there are great characters, plenty of action, and lots of special powers. And oh! the romance!

The romance is excellent-this book was perfect and steamy at times, but it wasn’t too steamy. I love it when a book will make me blush occasionally but doesn’t come across as raunchy. I started reading this book for the paranormal aspect, but ended up reading it for KALE…

…which is so interesting, you guys! If you know me at all, you know that I like books with action in them! I am a fan of an action-driven plot (as well as a character-driven plot) and I usually don’t mind a romance as a sub-plot. But this time–for whatever reason–I just felt that relationship and subsequent romance between Kale and Dez in Touch was really great, and that was my focal point in this book. The action was not bad; it was truly just as great as the romance! I love the Sixes and the villain was so, so BAD! I just think I had a crush on the dude.

If you are a fan of the paranormal genre, this is a great new twist on all of the other stuff that is out there. If you like romance, let me gently push this book on you nudge you in the general direction of Touch. If you like action-driven stories, here you go! I know I say this all the time, and I truly mean it: I am impatient for the next book in this series!

Touch was a solid recommend by my pal Jacinda at The Reading Housewives. Thanks, gal. I trust your opinion fully!
