Top Ten Tuesday:

Nine Great Book Endings
and
One Great Book Beginning!

(please see my current giveaways
listed at the bottom of this post)

1. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell.

This is probably my favorite book this year
and it has a lot to do with the ending.
(But the book is fantastic all the way from beginning to end.)

2. The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick.

I’m talking specifically about the BOOK here, which is nearly
100% different than the movie.
But yes, this ending is superb.

3. Where She Went by Gayle Forman.
My Review

This ending is so good, so very very good –
it’s perfect for both the book and the series.
It’s like a deep exhale when you’ve been holding your breath for far too long.

4. The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater.
My Review

A perfect and quiet ending for a book that was full of every emotion,
every feeling possible.

5. On The Island by Tracey Garvis Graves.

My Review

I love the ending of this one so much, which is why I keep re-reading it over and over and over…everybody loves a HEA.

**********************************************************

6. Second Helpings by Megan McCafferty.

This is a case where I loved the ending of the book so much that I hesitate in every way to continue with the series. I really need to get over this and keep going but THE ENDING OF THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD.

7. Nowhere But Home by Liza Palmer.
My Review

The ending of this book sticks out to me as so great certainly because it is so recent to my memory but it is also one of my favorites of this year. Such a warm and inviting book, the ending is warm and inviting too. Loved it.

8. Along For the Ride by Sarah Dessen.
My Review

I’m throwing this one on the list not because it is one of the best endings ever in a book, but because it was so hard for me to find a Sarah Dessen book that resonated with me and that didn’t scar me for life. This one is one that I actually enjoyed, the ending was good, and I read it fairly recently. It’s that simple. So YAY for throwing it on my list.

9. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

I love the way this particular installment of this book ended so much –
I’m hesitant to continue with the series (much to the impatience of some of my friends).

**************************************************

10. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.

Just to change things up, I’ll throw one BEGINNING into my list.
I absolutely love the way this story begins.
It’s awkward and odd and geeky and completely sticks out to me
as one of the best I’ve read this year –
my second favorite book of the year
(Ms. Rowell holds both the #1 & #2 spots, you guys.)

I included nine great endings and one great beginning today.
Any other day, my list may be different depending on how I feel at that given time.

    • I was pleasantly surprised by Along For The Ride as well after struggling to find a place within the world of Sarah Dessen – I'm actually excited to read more of her stuff now! And PLEASE read Attachments, it's my favorite so far this year!

  1. I've seen a lot of The Scorpio Races around. It must have a phenomenal ending. I may need to check it out. Great list!

    • Yes! The ending of The Scorpio Races is incredible – the entire book is wonderful but the ending is like winning something or exhaling after holding your breathing for a long time. It's perfection. Try to read it if you haven't!

  2. so much good stuff here! obviously I love the Rainbow Rowell (I liked the ending to E&P), but I also agree with the Liza Palmer. That book finished perfectly. and i have to say that i've read most of the things on your list & they all had fantastic endings. i need to read Silver Linings Playbook b/c I saw the movie and now I'm curious about the differences. ~daphne

    • Yeah, I was actually shocked at how many differences there were between the book and movie for Silver Linings Playbook. There were so many differences, I'm not even sure the movie will mess up the book for anyone, if that makes any sense at all. Both were super good, but in my opinion, but book was better because so much of it takes place inside the thoughts of the characters, which is hard to put onscreen.

  3. Hmmm..
So I learned a lot from this post:
    1. I didn't know that the book and the movie of Silver Linings are different. I liked the movie okay, but now wondering if I'd like the book more. I just reviewed Matthew Quicks's YA yesterday.
    2. Sarah Dessen books scarred you for life? Seriously? This is something we need to discuss more in depth. Maybe next year at BEA?
    3. I need to read Attachments immediately. I'm going to request it at the library right now. I want to read it before I read Fangirl.

    • I read one of Sarah Dessen's books that was really hard for me. So yes, scarred me. I've been really open to continuing to look for something from her that I can connect to since she is a NC author, which is why I've continued to try and find something by her that I liked.

  4. I can't believe I forgot to include E&P on my list. Such a beautiful, quiet, perfect opening to a book and a relationship. You have so many on your list that I love, or that I want to read. I can't wait to finally get to The Scorpio Races!

  5. I just purchased E&P today, and I can't wait to read it!

I really enjoyed Where She Went, too, but the Gayle book that made my list was Just One Year. That ending was phenomenal, and I'm dying to read Just One Year!

  6. Some of my favorite books of the year are Attachments and Eleanor & Park, too. I like I like E&P a little more, but I love them both. I really love everything about both those books. I should have included them in my TTT.

  7. YES AND YES AND YES to 3-5, 7, 9 and 10. I JUST started Nowhere But Home and plan to love that one to pieces. I need to get my hands on Silver Linings Playbook and Attachments, both at you recommendations. Both books I cannot wait to read. I love seeing a Sarah Dessen book on here! Tho I haven't read that one. And I'm determined to read Jessica Darling one of these days, but I keep getting weighed down by the fact that it's 5 whole books starring her and her drama. I think this is a time where I'll have to space them out. LOVE this list from you.

    • I can't stress how excellent Attachments is. I want to make a banner and skywrite it over populated areas like they do at the beaches in the summertime. I love that book SO HARD because I love that main character SO HARD. When you read it, I think you'll like it too. And I really loved Silver Linings Playbook and when I watched the movie a week or two ago, I was really shocked at how different it was!

  8. Ems

Where She Went and Outlander!! Loved both of those SO much. I'm getting ready to start an Outlander reread, and now I'm all excited about it again.

    Great list!

    • I loved that book but I'm terrified to go any further! I want to, but I'm SO HAPPY with how it ended that I could just be happy with never going any further. I know that sounds so weird, but I'm so content with it.

  9. I haven't read any of these! Out of all of them though, Rainbow Rowell's books are the ones I'm most interested in (though Gayle Forman is up there as well, since I haven't read a book by her either). It just seems that EVERYONE is always talking about how amazing Rowell's book are, and c'mon, those covers are ADORABLE! My biggest hesitation is always because they're contemporary, but I should really just get over it. I could be missing out on some great books! Great list 🙂

    • Oh Asti, Rainbow Rowell is so good, even for people that aren't really the biggest fans of contemporaries. She is SO GOOD at what she does and I just think you'd really like them. And I agree that her covers are great (Fangirl has a great cover too!) I only recently began reading contemporaries and now I read more of them than anything else!

  10. Haven't read most of these, but I really want to even more now! My interest in the Jessica Darling series rocketed up as well because I'm guessing Second Helpings is the sequel 😉 Great list!

  11. I was, honest to goodness, clutching my Kindle for dear life while reading Attachments because I thought it might end a certain way and was legit terrified that it would cuz then I'd be sad but then it seemed like things were turning around and I was just flipping those pages like a madwoman to find out how it ended.

And I totally agree – one of THE BEST endings to a book. *happy sigh*
