This Week’s Topic:
Ten Books
That Made Me Feel
Some Pretty STRONG Emotions
1. Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness |
If you know me at all, this is no surprise to you.
If you don’t, let’s just say this: It took me forever to finish this book
in anticipation of an emotional ending.
I sobbed SO HARD at the end of this book
I had to go to the other end of my house so I wouldn’t wake up
my husband. I loved it so much I don’t even know what to say. It’s THAT incredible.
2. Soulless by Gail Carriger |
but I did over and over while I read this book!
4. Fire by Kristin Cashore |
I didn’t pay attention to the dust jacket. I didn’t
realize that this was the COMPANION to Graceling,
not the sequel. So when I started reading it a mere minute or two
after finishing Graceling and IT DIDN’T WORK,
I CHUNKED IT ACROSS THE ROOM. No joke.
After my anger (at myself) subsided a few weeks later,
I picked it up and LOVED it. Even more than Graceling.
5. Paper Towns by John Green |
This was one of those books that I hugged
when I finished. It was so profoundly excellent and
I immediately wished that I HADN’T just finished it so I could
have the experience of reading it again for the first time.
Every time I read John Green’s books, I feel that way.
His books are REAL LIFE, and those warrant HUGS.
6. The His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman |
Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy…
Pure joy, folks, right here.
7. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta |
This book made me feel blistering heartache,
but it felt so good.
This book is such an absolute delight,
but that beauty comes with pain.
8. Room by Emma Donoghue |
This book made me feel tons of emotions,
and most of them weren’t all that great.
I had fear, anger, sadness, disgust…
and a little bit of elation and relief.
WHATEVER the emotion was,
it was to the EXTREME.
9. The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer |
When I read these books, I had no idea
that there were books out there that could be this good…
no idea that there were books that I could enjoy so much.
I’ve read lots of stuff that I deem “better” than these books,
but at the time, they made me crazy happy.
So, they make my list today.
10. We The Animals by Justin Torres |
Twilight … you never know how you should feel about the fact you've read them – and in my case really loved them. After Harry Potter these were the first books to really wake my hunger again. I never finished 4 novels in such a short time.
Great list 😉
Anne (from Living in a Fairy World)
Room is one of those books that sticks with you! I read it a few months ago and I still can't stop thinking about them.
I sucked up the Twilight series too!
Twilight changed my life. Like you, I didn't know that I could feel so strongly towards words on paper about fictitious people. And VAMPIRES, nonetheless. This sparked my insatiable hunger for reading, to find the next book that made me feel like this. Though some have come close, I don't think anything has quite reached that magnitude of completely blind love for me.
I'm afraid of reading Monster of Men now! 🙂 I guess I already was because you've mentioned how difficult it was to read when I talked to you about it before.
<3 Souless
I still need to read Fire…especially before Bitterblue comes out *sigh*
I have Room on my list to read but I usually start over the next year so it may stay there it may not. I also want to include The Reading Promise. that is one I will read for next year.

I loved Room. So disturbing and emotional. But amazingly written. Great pick.
yes! read the outlander series in 2012! it's amazing.
great list!
I will have to pick up The Reading Promise. I loved Fire and Paper Towns. I was pregnant when I read the Twilight Saga so Breaking Dawn will always be my favorite of those, even though most people don't like that one;) Awesome list!
Patrick Ness FOR FREAKING EVER.
also, Graceling and Fire are books i totally fangirl over.
i do need to give Soulless a try. you recommend it so highly!
What a great list. I haven't read a John Green book yet, but they will be read soon. They're on my TBR list.
I'm glad you said something about Fire. Because I bought Graceling and I totally thought Fire was the sequel. Thanks for that info!
The Reading Promise looks good! I'll have to check that out!
Jelicoe Road. I really must read this book. And Paper Towns. (Though I was not wild about the author's Looking for Alaska…perhaps I'd expected too much?)
