    • I agree about lots of YA covers being dark. The Destined cover is what initially drew my eye, then when I read that it was a mythology retelling, I HAD to read it. Turns out it was one of my favorite books that I read last year. It's Incredible. Love it so much!

Love the use of red in When She Woke. 😉

    • Yes, when the first book in a series is missing I often notice the subsequent books on the library shelves as well. Case in point at my library: The Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness, which is a favorite of mine. Incidentally, I found a huge chunk of pages missing out of it and alerted them and of course, they pulled the book. I don't know when they're replacing the first book but I hope it is soon because it breaks my heart to see books two and three ALWAYS sitting there where they always had a waiting list before…

And totally agree…"abnormally good" is a great descriptor for the movie tie-in…I may have to borrow that phrase!

  1. Oooooo yes!!!!! SO PRETTY! I love the Amanda Hocking covers, they're so vibrant and stunning and I want them all lined up on my shelf looking amazing:) I also adore the cover for Wither and The Night Circus – just gorgeous:)

    • The Hocking covers are just beautiful, even more so in real life. They are three books that you need to try and get to when you get a chance, Jenny. I think you'd like them. I just got Ascend today and I'm having a FIT to crack it open already!!

    • The cover for The Book of Lost Things is why I read the book, and it is a favorite of mine. I don't have this one and I want to buy it, but only in this cover. I have a hard time finding it because there is apparently a newer edition out?? It isn't as interesting and eye-catching as the one I have pictured.

  2. Ems

I love book covers. I have a few that I'd rather like to frame and hang on my walls. The Night Circus is definitely one of them.

So many gorgeous covers out there!

    • You know, Ems, with The Night Circus, I love both the US and the UK covers. I should have included them both on this list because they're both so beautiful.

That's a great idea, to frame pretty covers. I'd love to borrow that one from you…

  3. I love how artsy these covers are. They're all really beautiful. A Sweet Far Thing made it onto my list, too. And that edition of The Hobbit is the most gorgeous one I've ever seen. 🙂

    • Thanks Darlene!

When you take off the dust jacket for both Wither and Fever, there is so much there for your eyes to take in…and I don't know if you've read the books or not but every single thing pictured is in the story. So brilliantly crafted and put together. Beautiful.

  4. GAH! These ARE pretty covers! I especially love The Night Circus, and the covers for Amanda Hocking's books are STUNNING! The Book of Lost Things is also soooo pretty! I haven't read it, but now, just because you love it and the cover is awesome, I'm going to check it out! Yay!

    • Oh, Amy, The Book of Lost Things is SO GOOD. It isn't YA but it has YA appeal even though it is dark. I think you might like it and I absolutely recommend it.

And I agree with Hocking's covers being absolutely stunning. I can't stop looking at them. They're so vibrant and brilliant in color. So pretty.

  5. Yay! These ARE pretty! I adore the covers of Night Circus and When She Woke. Ship Breaker creeps me out, but I kinda like being creeped out. Also nothing, and I mean NOTHING has made me want to put on a corset so much as the covers of the Gemma Doyle series.

    • Oh Ship Breaker! I love that cover because it reminds me exactly of the story inside the book. Gritty and metallic and just, hard. I love the font on the front that looks like it is written in chalk. I love everything about it. And if you open the book, the title page looks similar. So awesome. It sets the tone for the inside of the book, which is exactly what a cover should do.

And I love what you say about the corset! That's so great! Those covers have to be some of the most beautiful I've ever seen in my life.

    • Thanks Kate. I replied to an earlier comment that although I don't NEED that copy of The Hobbit, I really WANT it because it is so awesome. I just bought a copy a few weeks ago at a library sale and it isn't nearly as eye-catching.

And I love how The Night Circus was made – paper cutouts! So crafty and such a beautiful end-product.

I love the use of red in When She Woke and agree that it is effecting.

Wither speaks for itself, no? It's brilliantly done.

  6. I love the Gemma Doyle covers. I still need to read those books too! And everything about The Night Circus is just gorgeous. Great list!!

    • I still haven't read the final Gemma Doyle book – don't feel bad! (I hate finishing a series, though, so it'll probably be a while before I pick it up. Finishing a series seems so…sad and final to me.) And yes, EVERYTHING about The Night Circus is absolutely perfect, I agree.

  7. I like the Trylle Trilogy covers, but for some reason the last one just seems evil to me. Like that chair is an electric chair or something. It creeps me out 😛

  8. OMG I LOVE A LOT OF THESE COVERS! I almost actually bought that same copy of the Hobbit at BN a few months ago because I love that cover, even though I already own the paperback with Gandalf chillin. Walkin' places. You know what's up.

AND OMG JOHN CONNELLY! I freakin' loved The Book Of Lost Things even though it's so creepy. BUT SO GOOD.

Nice to see a fellow fan. Dude you got awesome taste.
