Ten Books I’d Love to See
Made Into a Movie or TV Show
(if I had a hand in making it so
I would know it wouldn’t be destroyed)
(please see my current giveaways
listed at the bottom of this post)
1. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell.
This is probably my favorite book this year.
Even though about half of the book is basically emails from one person to another, I know Hollywood could do that and do it well. The most charming part would be in the casting of dear, sweet, awkward Lincoln who I love with all of my heart.
**********************************************************
2. Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham.
This could be a super-cute movie.
Especially since the author is an actor.
**********************************************************
3. Graceling by Kristin Cashore.
I’d love to see the Seven Kingdoms brought to life.
BUT THIS IS ONE INSTANCE IN WHICH IT ABSOLUTELY
CANNOT BE SCREWED UP. IT CANNOT.
ALSO Katsa and Po would have to be perfectly cast.
**********************************************************
Another instance of
DON’T YOU DARE SCREW THIS ONE UP.
Another instance of
YOU BETTER CAST PUCK AND SEAN PERFECTLY.
**********************************************************
5. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.
Sometimes we love those movies that just makes you feel things.
With a box of Kleenex beside you and probably some comfort food and definitely the ugly cry.
**********************************************************
6. Railsea by China Mieville.
Good gracious, this could be such a fun movie.
Cause the book is SO GOOD and SO MUCH FUN.
And HELLO, WORLDBUILDING!
*This was one of my top three favorite books last year. FYI.*
**********************************************************
YES x 10,000 for every reason.
If you’ve read it, you already know that it plays like a movie in your head and
you’ve already visualized it and it would be SO SO GOOD.
SO. GOOD.
If you haven’t read it yet, YOU REALLY SHOULD.
It’s actually that great.
**********************************************************
8. A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick.
This is one of my all-time favorite books and with its setting
– both time and place –
and the actual story, it has the potential to be just brilliant.
So does the other book by Robert Goolrick, also a favorite of mine.
**************************************************
9. The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly.
I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH.
IF YOU MESSED THIS BOOK UP, HOLLYWOOD,
I’D LIKELY SWEAR OFF MOVIES FOREVER.
I’m not even joking.
I saw what you did to Percy Jackson, Hollywood.
**************************************************
10. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.
For the heck of it, let’s throw on into the mix that could be made kind of like a John Hughes movie. Because WE ALL KNOW those are pretty much some of the best ones there are anyway.
**************************************************
These would all have to be perfectly cast
BUT ALSO have the perfect
producers/directors working on them for me
to even WANT to see them.
I’m really picky about movie adaptations.
To a fault, really.
What made your list?
What made your list?
Nowhere But Home and Eleanor & Park would make REALLY good movies, mostly because they're contemporary. The Scorpio Races would make a stunning film, but it would also be so much harder to find the perfect cast and really make a good movie out of. And awhile back there was news that Graceling is, actually, going to be made into a film, though I haven't heard more about it. I'm hoping it's done well because like you, it's one of my favorites and I'd hate to see it ruined on-screen. Great list, Asheley!
I was hesitant to put E&P down b/c I wouldn't want a movie to ruin it for me, but I do think a director could make magic with the bus riding scenes at the beginning.
I love the idea of both Attachments and E&P being movies and I'm glad you qualified this by saying the right actors, the right director/producers/writer, etc. I would be so upset if they were messed up!
Attachments would be SO cute. I actually pictured a movie as I was reading it 🙂
E&P would be fantastic as well, in a totally different way.
I would love to see The Scorpio Races too, AND Graceling! So many wonderful picks!
I have yet to read Someday, Someday, Maybe, but would totally watch the movie. 🙂
Ooh The Scorpio Races and Graceling – yes!!! Would love to see them as movies too.

I cannot believe i forgot Graceling…. Sigh.
And I'm right there with you on the Scorpio Races.
Here's hoping Hollywood does these amazing stories justice.
My TTT THis Week
I definitely agree with Attachments! I would love to see it made into a film, although I have no idea who I'd want to be cast as Lincoln. I really need to read Me Before You, and I'll definitely be keeping my tissues close by as I do!
ATTACHMENTS would be SO SO FUN. I'd LOVE that one as a movie. It definitely read very cinematically. Isn't Lauren Graham's book going to be a tv show? SCORPIO RACES, NOWHERE BUT HOME and ELEANOR AND PARK, YES! I'd love those. But Scorpio especially would have to get the setting right. IDK if I could handle Me Before You. It might kill me to watch it. I need to read THE BOOK OF LOST THINGS. That is all.
The Scorpio Races would be lovely if it was done well, but in the real world I'd be so worried! Graceing would be good, too!
Katy @ a blighted one
I definitely need to read Attachments, since I've read all of Rowell's YA books now!
I'm really interested to see how Lauren Graham adapts the story into the TV show that is being made of Someday, Someday, Maybe.
EVERYONE has Me Before You on their list. I have no idea what it is about but I'm off to check into it further, haha.
Eleanor & Park would BE perfect as a John Hughes kind of movie!!
My TTT list!
I haven't read any of these, but I am anxious to try Attachments and Eleanor & Park. I read Rowell's recent release, Fangirl, and loved every minute of it. Thanks for sharing!
haha I like your disclaimer that you'd want to have a hand in the creation of these films/tv shows so that you could be assured that they'd be good. 🙂 I'm the same in my thoughts there.
Graceling and The Scorpio Races made my list as well.
I really need to read A Reliable Wife and Nowhere But Home – they sound fantastic and I'm on a bit of an adult fiction fix right now.
I haven't read Eleanor and Park yet, but I can so see it being made into a John Hughes type film. 🙂
AAHHHH! We had several of the same books on our list 🙂 YAYYYY US! I'd totally love to see some of these books – Attachments, Me Before You, The Scorpio Races, Graceling, Someday, Someday, Maybe – on the big screen!
