Ten of My Favorite Romances!

So hard to narrow them down, but I’m throwing up ten favorites.
These aren’t necessarily in order and I have other favorites as well!

1. Celia and Marco from
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

An all-time favorite couple from an all-time favorite book,

this couple dances around the possibility that they could be together
even though others have tried to make it impossible.
They show that their love is stronger than anything else
and the chemistry that they share is wonderful to read.

2. Akiva and Karou from

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Theirs is a love that transcends lifetimes and their chemistry is so powerful
that they can feel it without even touching.
It’s incredible and lovely.

3. Aria and Perry from

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

I love it when a couple beats the odds or even the rules

or perhaps rewrite the rules
so they can be together and experience the love they share.

4. Sam and Ana from
Incarnate by Jodi Meadows

This couple came together even when it was unheard of for
someone like Sam to associate with a Nosoul/Newsoul like Ana.
Theirs is a relationship that started with a shared love for music
and grew outward from there, and it is really special.

5. Meghan Chase and ‘the one she chooses’ from
The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa

This couple makes me happy, happy, happy, happy
even the road to ending up together is long and filled with
stuff like heartache, tension, and adventure.
I loved the build-up throughout the beginning of the series and
the shared romance – even with obstacles – in the latter part of the series.

**********************************************************

6. Puck Connolly and Sean Kendrick from
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

Such a subtle build-up, the slowest of slow burns –
this couple doesn’t realize that they’re in love for most of the book.
Their love is so innocent and pure and lovely
and so different from most of what we read these days
in both adult and YA fiction.

**********************************************************

 7. Eleanor and Park from

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Please forgive me for including a couple that isn’t published
yet for everyone to read – but I couldn’t resist the opportunity
to tell everyone that this is a story that you will want to check out so
you can experience Eleanor and Park for yourselves.

Release Date: February 26, 2013
See my review HERE.

8. Jamie and Claire from
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

I don’t even know how to talk about a couple that is as wonderfully
put together and written as these two, so I probably won’t.
All I’ll say is that if you’ve read the books, you may or may not agree.
They’re one of my favorite couples, period.
(And I love how discussable they are!)

Talk about overcoming some odds and fighting to be together!

9. Sky and Holder from
Hopeless by Colleen Hoover

Sky and Holder have an interesting and unconventional relationship
that leads to an interesting romance. I don’t want
to give too much away. So just trust me.
They’re a more recent favorite of mine.

10. Anne and Gilbert from
The Anne of Green Gables Series by L.M. Montgomery

To me, there is no romance more swoonworthy than theirs.
They are tops!

**************************************************

There are a ton of great bookish romances out there!

I didn’t even include any of my favorite classics in the mix
(unless you count Anne and Gilbert?).

  1. I love all.of.these. We are completely on the same page about our romance loves. The only one I have yet to read is Eleanor and Park and I cannot wait for it!! My heart is a flutter thinking about these couples! And just you wait for ASUNDER. You have some goodness to come :).

  2. Oh Akiva and Karou! I had forgotten about those two, but I loved that romance. I wasn't a huge fan of the book, but I plan on reading the next one simply because of those two. And Aria and Perry. You know how I feel about those two. Favorite literary couple forever and always 🙂

  3. Don't know how I could have gone all of my 63 book-addicted years and not have read any of Diana Gabaldon's incredible novels! I have been listening to (and reading along with)Outlander and now Dragonfly in Amber and have fallen in love myself with Jamie and Claire. What wonderful books!

  4. Aria and Perry, Akiva and Karou, and Sean and Puck are some of my favorites too! I love how perfect these couples are for each other and how they complement one another. Truly, the development of these romances was so beautiful. Fantastic list, Asheley! 🙂

  5. I've seen a lot of Aria and Perry today. I really need to get to reading those books! I absolutely LOVE Meaghan and Ash. I'm reading The Lost Prince right now, and they're just so amazing together.

  6. Yep, Aria and Perry and Puck and Sean made mine too. I didn't include Akiva and Karou just yet. I'm waiting until the final book in the series but I feel pretty strongly they will be on that list:)

Can you believe that I have never read Anne of Green Gables? Yeah, it's embarrassing… but my library carries the whole set. Might just have to pick it up one of these days:)

    Great list, Ash!

  7. ARE WE KINDRED SPIRITS?! Yes, yes we are. Okay, so we had Puck & Sean (swoon swoon swoon) and Anne & Gilbert (I WILL fight you for him so don't even) but I totally could have included Karou & Akiva and Aria & Perry (actually made an image for them but took it out when I thought of a couple I'd loved longer). I still haven't read Days of Blood & Starlight (is that the name? I keep mixing it up with shadow and bone, smoke and blood or those other confusing titles mixing body elements with nature-y thing) because I don't even want to know what happens. And Aria & Perry just get better in Through the Ever Night – have you read that yet? I can't remember! Fail.

  8. Amy

ASHELEY. So first of all, Puck and Sean really are kind of the best, aren't they? You're so right that their love is different from lts of other YA books because it's so slow and quiet and PERFECT. LOVE THEM LOVE THEM.
ALSO. HOW on EARTH did I forget JAMIE AND CLAIRE?!? How?! I don't even know. Because YES YES YES!! I actually just finished the audio of the most recent book. They are still awesome together. I WISH that I could have put Young Ian and someone on my list because HIM I adore forever.
I need to read Incarnate and Under the Never Sky, and now that I know that on top of the great-sounding stories there are Asheley-approved romances, I'll have to bump them to the top of the TBR!!

  9. It makes me so happy that Sam and Ana are on this list. I loved that their initial connection became stronger due to music, and I loved how their relationship developed over the course of the book.

Of course, Sean and Puck are truly a wonderful romance as well – mostly because it's so unusual. I loved reading about them, and I truly rooted for them in the end.

No question, of course, that Gilbert and Anne are the best!
