Ten of the Most Frustrating Characters Ever!
Keep in mind that what frustrates me may not frustrate you!
And on a different day, these may be totally different!

1. Katsa from
Graceling by Kristin Cashore

Katsa frustrates me partly for the same reason I LOVE her.
She’s extremely stubborn and won’t listen. Sometimes
this gets her into trouble. And sometimes she needs to be the best when
sometimes she should just learn to be humble.
*But ask me any day of the week, and I will tell you Katsa is my favorite
kick-butt female heroine. So, there’s that.

2. Samantha Kingston from

Before I Fall
b
y Lauren Oliver

Sam is mean and she knows it. She’s also a follower, a people-pleaser.
She doesn’t stand up to her friends when they make fun of or harass others.
Sam’s behavior frustrated me so much, and it caused me to not like this book.
(I know I’m one of the few, but I stand by my frustration.)

3. Celaena Sardothien from
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Celaena has a lot of potential in her world to be so awesome
 – HOWEVER – she is an expert at stringing two men along.
It’s very frustrating to me.

To me, her case is worse than a regular love triangle, it’s just mean.
Get it together, Celaena!

4. Daemon Black from
Obsidian by Jennifer Armentrout

Daemon, you’re kind of a jerk.
But you’re hot so my frustration factor is very low.

(I’m shallow. LOOK AT HIM.)

**********************************************************

5. Katniss Everdeen from
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Am I even allowed to be frustrated with Katniss?
YES I AM.
Am I allowed to be frustrated with Katniss
because I don’t like her choice in men?
YES I AM.

6 – 8. Juliette, Adam, and Warner from
Shatter Me, Destroy Me, Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi

Juliette, you’re hot then you’re cold. You’re yes then you’re no.
You change opinions and directions like the wind and a pair of socks.
Ordinarily this is okay, but with all you’ve got at stake? STOP. IT.

Adam, I’m gonna need for you to step up a little bit.

You’re hot, so find a teensy bit more confidence.
 Also, m
aybe quit moping around. Yeah, that would be good.

Warner, JUST STOP EVERYTHING YOU DO ALWAYS.
All of the good and all of the bad – it all frustrates me SO MUCH.

I have high hopes for you all, that toward the end of this series you can
pull yourselves together and be all I know you can be.

**********************************************************

 9. Dez Cross from
Touch, Untouched, Toxic by Jus Accardo

Dez, you’re such a butt-kicking, awesome female.
So what happened to you in Toxic?
You turned into a such an insecure, jealous whiner!
Get it together in the next book, gal.

**********************************************************

10. Clara Gardner from
Unearthly, Hallowed, Boundless by Cynthia Hand

I’m extremely frustrated with Clara Gardner right now.
RIGHT NOW. Why?
Because I’m two books into this series and she has done NOTHING to
help me decide which of part of the love triangle would be best for her.
This is frustrating for me because it is also hazardous to my health.
Even though these books are fantastic, I have suffered from
extreme emotional outbursts whilst reading them
and for random periods of time afterward.
And I haven’t even gotten to the last book yet!
Shame on you, Clara Gardner! You should do SOMETHING
to make it easier for me. So I’m frustrated with YOU.

Which characters frustrate YOU??
Who made YOUR list?

Do you agree with any of my frustrations?
Do you think any of them are pretty silly?
Talk to me! I want to know!!

  1. Oh Yes Adam. Stand up for what you want. Shout it if it helps the message sink in. Shake that girl till she gets her sh*t together. I <3 Adam forever and ever and ever…

  2. I love that Celaena made this list – and for good reason! She needs to DECIDE. (And personally, I need her to pick Chaol. You know, for my own sanity!)

Also, I need to read more of Tahereh's writing because I want to see how I'll be reacting to Warner, Juliette and Adam after Destroy Me and Unravel Me!

  3. YES! Love your Shatter Me trio of frustration and your Clara Gardner annoyance! But I think my fave is Sam from Before I Fall. Should have put her on my list, she's easily one of the most frustrating characters ever!

    My TTT

  4. Hahaha, I love your list! Everything about Juliette, Adam, and Warner is so true. I love them all, but I'm frustrated with them as well. I can't stand Adam. He's too emotional for me.

  5. You even sound nice when you get aggressive! AND POETIC. This is really well written. I agree with ALL OF THESE (that I've read). Though, wait were you not a Peeta fan? We need to talk about that! Katsa scares me. There's really nothing more to it. She is TOO MUCH for me to handle. Oh and I've purposefully not read THRONE OF GLASS for that exact reason. Back and fourth is an immediate NO. I do have high hopes for Dez, but I may have to skim through book 2. I am going to predict that Adam is going to rise to the top in the final book. He'd better. He fought so hard for Juliette to end now. But she needs to be honest with him as well. DON'T LET ME DOWN, ADAM! I can't even about Clara. You must finish the series so we can chat about it.

  6. You DID NOT just make me bust out in song at work! (You did! And I even danced a little in my chair.) I love that Katy Perry song.

    ANYWAY!
Hmm, I hadn't considered Katsa, but you're right. I see it now.

Daemon is totally a jerk. And he's hot. I think those mostly go together. Or something.

HAHAHA I'm Team Peeta…but the way she treated him –and Gale, and her power over the people, etc etc–is one of the reasons she frustrates me.

And YES YES YES to all the reasons in 6 – 8!

*skips away singing* You don't really want to stay, no, but you don't really wanna go-o…"

  7. YES YES YES to being annoyed with KATNIS. Especially in Mockingjay! But not because of her choice in men. Because she's completely inconsistent.

    The other books, I haven't read 🙂

  8. Katsa IS extremely frustrating, but I love how that's part of her nature, so I just flat out love her. Also, Daemon is definitely very frustrating and so is Katniss. ESPECIALLY in the last book! ALL THAT ANGST! Awesome list, though, Asheley! 🙂

  9. haha I suppose I can see why Katsa and Katniss would both make your lists. At the end of the day, though, I do love them both and think they're strong protagonists. Perhaps sometimes the frustration we have for characters ultimately helps make us like them better? I am eager to read Unravel Me and see how the three main characters become more frustrating.

  10. I loved Graceling when I first read it a few months ago, and then really enjoyed it again upon rereading BUT I don't think I originally thought Katsa was as frustrating as I did during the reread. Maybe I was so caught up her in badass self the first time around and missed it, but dang that girl can be a total pill sometimes.

Completely agree on Samantha! I had mixed feelings on this book. I liked that Oliver was trying to make someone unlikeable and mean the main character because it's not often done. But I didn't think it was entirely successful because it kept me from getting fully invested in the story. I thought the writing and concept were great – I just didn't walk away from this loving it.

I found Katniss frustrating because I just wanted her to get it together and be the face of the Revolution. She had all this potential to be a symbol of change, but she didn't really want that for herself. AND I LOVE PEETA SO I AM IGNORING YOUR OTHER REASON FOR NOT LIKING HER.

I can't wait to read Destroy Me and Unravel Me and be able to join you in the frustration. And also, I can't stop singing Katy Perry's song in my head so thanks for that.

AND OH CLARA. Now that you've read the last book, isn't it even more fitting that she's included on this list?!
