These are just some of my favorites from my young years up through my middle grade years. While I LOVED The Babysitter’s Club books and Sweet Valley Twins books a ton, I’d have to say that the Laura Ingalls books and the Anne of Green Gables series both hold the Blue Ribbon Spot in my heart!

ALSO: I used to devour the R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike books like crazy – probably because the rest of my friends did as well. I blame my non-love of horror and thriller books/stories today on the chills these books gave me when I was younger. Despite reading them nearly constantly, I couldn’t leave them with their covers exposed in my room – I had to have them either in my backpack where I could NOT see them or I had to cover them with a shirt or something – they completely creeped me out! (Probably an indication that I didn’t need to be reading them, right?)

What are some of your favorite books from childhood and your middle grade years? There are a ton I could’ve put on this list!

  1. I LOVED the Sweet Valley High books. Jessica was my idol! I also read every Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary book. Another series I loved was Encyclopedia Brown. Did you ever read those? I learned how to use steam to open an envelope from that series. 🙂

  2. I barely read anything else but Fear Street books when I was in fourth grade. I couldn't get enough of them. But I also loved Roald Dahl, too. Especially Matilda!!

  3. I loved SO MANY of these books! I was beyond obsessed with Nancy Drew for YEARS. I also loved Little House, BSC, Beverly Cleary, and Boxcar Children. I went through a short period of loving the Sweet Valley books but then my mom read one and thought Jessica was too bratty – or something; I don't remember exactly – and would thus rub off on me? So I wasn't allowed to read them anymore, LOL.
