I’m so excited that Melissa at i swim for oceans likes discussion posts because sometimes I get chatty and have things to say. Melissa has opened her Let’s Talk event up to the rest of us and I’m excited to be a part of it. Thank you, Melissa!

This week’s question:

What are your top goals as a book blogger?
1. Keep those comments coming…and by that I mean keep visiting other places and leaving my thoughts behind. In the past week or two I’ve been so super darn busy but that has to change, friends. I’ve neglected my blogger friends and their blogs, but not on purpose! I’ve always tried to keep a but of an organized chaotic schedule about moving around the blogosphere to my favorite places and reading the thoughts everyone puts out there. I need to make sure I keep doing that. Plus…I’ve always always always stressed how important it is to pay it forward and try to visit those who regularly visit you. Gotta get back to that business, you guys. Lately I think I’ve frequented like only one blog and this is unacceptable to me!

2. Keep talking about books…books I love, books I didn’t love, books I’ve read, books I haven’t read yet…all of them. I started this whole thing to find a place to talk about books, so that is the whole idea behind my little space on the interwebs. I just want active conversation. It doesn’t have to be on the blog – bring it to twitter, I don’t care. Let’s just talk about books or bookish things! Don’t be shy.

3. Keep encouraging other bloggers on their goals…everybody needs validation, a pick me up, or an opinion sometimes (but only when they ask for it). It isn’t hard to make someone’s day by telling them you like the new format of their review or their new feature or whatever. Stuff like that means a lot to people!

Honestly…

I am not sure that I really have ever had a list of goals for this blog. It’s always been more of a thing I just like to do, a stress relief, a place to talk to about books. Having a list of anything is pretty much a guarantee that I won’t do it – that’s just how this gal rolls. So I think I’ll stick with what I’ve got and just keep going like I’m going. I’ve been so very fortunate to find some people that I will probably talk to forever, even after this blog is long gone (I will weep when that day comes in the very distant future.). I also know for a fact that I nag coerce make some of you blogging/reading people talk about books with me, but I’m okay with that too because I think you’re bookish and you get me. You get me!

  1. I like your goals! 🙂

I think if I was doing one of these lists, I'd say that one of my goals is to comment more as well. Like, I have 800 posts in google reader, I fell so far behind these past few weeks and I can't just hit clear all because what if I miss something comment worthy? Ya know?

AND YES MORE TALKING ABOUT BOOKS ALWAYS! <333

    • I didn't realize you could clear them! Haha. Last night I cleared out my Google Reader completely. Deleted everybody. And I've been adding everyone back one by one. Not everyone was showing up! For me, out of sight, out of mind. If you don't show up in my reader, I won't remember to comment on your blog. So I erased everyone and started over. I've spent since I got up this morning super early visiting and commenting, backwards, in true Asheley-fashion.

  2. Interesting goals. I always love discussing books, sometimes it's easier in person than online to keep a convo going though.

    • Hey Britt! I find it just the opposite…I don't have as many in-real-life bookish friends as I can connect with online. Now when I can meet up with my IRL friends, we chat it up – trust me – but it is much easier online for me. They all live about two hours away so it has to be well-coordinated.

  3. I am so bad at setting goals for my blog. I think yours sound really good-good luck at them and at continuing to evaluate and set new ones as necessary!

    • Thanks! I really just want to keep up with what I've got going, mostly reading and discussing and commenting. Any other goals I make will be spur of the moment-type. I'm not very good at long-term goals! But at least I own that and know it about myself!

  4. I'm with you, I didn't really have any goals when I started by blog. I just did it for fun, still doing it for fun. so that's my goal. Keep it fun.. I often see people get burnt out by it all. My goal is to not become that person. lol

yay to talking books, and speaking of talking books, I know you are on this contemporary kick.. I just read the Summer Series by Jenny Han.. Hands down, this series is now at the top of my Contemporary love list. They were so perfect. I think you would really enjoy them. :0) I will forever now be pushing them at everyone.

Also, I have been crazy busy too. maybe it's the nice weather. more time outside, less time on the computer commenting.

    • Yes April! Fun! That's been my point the whole time. No chores for this girl in the blogging world, only fun.

Speaking of the Summer Series – it's funny you mention those books. I actually have books two and three but not one! I've always heard they're really good. They're near the top of my list of books to try and acquire. Well, book one is. haha

And I'll reference you to other-April's comment up above for my lack of commenting lately, in addition to life being crazy. Last night I had to redo my entire Google Reader, so this morning I've been working my way through it. I'm getting to you, I promise. Looking forward to it. I could spend days going back thru everyone's posts – well, I wish I had the time to.

  5. Ems

I think I need to set some goals for myself! I did the whole Bloggiesta thing, but I didn't really do anything long-term other than a review archive. I know I definitely need to visit more blogs. I read so many through Google Reader, but I need to actually give them a visit & comment!

    Excellent post. Really excellent.

    • Thanks Ems! I finally fixed my Reader so today you are showing up! I was so happy this morning when I saw you and a few others that had been missing.

I got a lot out of Bloggiesta, but honestly I wanted to do more. I'd love to do another weekend of it sometime. Maybe a self-imposed Bloggiesta! Ha!

  6. One of the things I love about you and your blog is that you DO comment and respond back so much. I know you think you don't do that as often as you should, but I for one think you are doing just fine:)

Cleaned out your Google Reader!! (shudders) That sounds like a TASK! I think I would rather clean and organize my closets or something equally tedious!

    • Ha! Yep, I deleted the entire thing. It was scary but then I put them all back one by one. I'm sure I've missed one or two blogs that I love but I'll have to figure those out over the next few days.

You can come clean my closet if you want. That would be awesome. It's pretty bad.

  7. I'm with Heather. I like when I comment here that you always get back to me, and that you've helped me a ton with my blog. So you are keeping to your goals.

    • Lists are so hard for me. I never stick to them. I just figured I'd write down what I *try* to do already. I'm not the best at this already, and I can always improve! But listing it out has an opposite effect on me because I'm weird like that. Trust me.

I'm coming by your blog, I promise. I had to delete everyone and start over in my Reader. I'm working my way through. 🙂

  8. I don't really have set goals for my blog either. Generally I just want it to keep growing and allow me to get to know awesome people such as yourself ;]
