This Is How I Finish 2012!

Posted December 30, 2012 by Asheley in Uncategorized / 12 Comments

You guys, I’ve read some pretty amazing books this year.
I’ve read books and I’ve re-read books and I’ve listened to books
and I’ve loved every second of it.

My to-read list is miles long and I add to it pretty much daily.
One book in particular has been on the list for ages.
I’ve even owned it for a good, long while.

I’m not sure why I haven’t read it yet.
(Shame. On. Me.)

It all ends now.

Y’all, I’m so excited!

I’m totally moving this book over to the “read” pile.

Yes I am!

I’m actually reading/re-reading several books right now.
(You can see a couple of them holding up my Kindle!)
But everything goes on hold for the ole’ horsey book.

I reeealllyyy want to know why everyone loves this book so much!

YAY!!!

Have you read The Scorpio Races yet?

If you have, tell me your thoughts!

Somebody be happy for me!!

  1. The Scorpio Races was one of my top favorite reads for 2012! I LOVED it. The writing, the story, the characters. It was AWESOME! Hope you enjoy it 🙂 I just finished Days of Blood & Starlight…speechless.

  2. Ems

I WANTED to love this book SO badly. But I didn't. I was bored out of my mind. I think it's just a case of the author not being the author for me, because I haven't liked a single book of hers that I've read. Never fear though, I'm not giving up! There is BOUND to be one of them that I love! The Raven Boys is up next. I'm hoping this is the one!

  3. I am so excited that you're reading The Scorpio Races. It's such a wonderful book – and seeing that you're reading it just makes me want to grab my copy and read it all over again. Happy reading! Hope you enjoy xo

  4. I KNEW you were going to love this book, Asheley! Knew it with every fiber of my being. Maybe because of the fantastic world building. Maybe because of the amazing fully fleshed characters. Maybe because of the swoony and subtle romance. Or maybe because of the INCREDIBLE writing– I KNEW it was an Asheley book.

    Love this about your review:

"I see their mud-stained boots, their blood-stained clothes, their tired faces. I see the way they see each other. "

YES– I swear it was exactly the same for me! The imagery in Steifvater's writing was incredible. You know what you should try next, Ash? The Brides of Rollrock Island by Margo Lanagan. It reminded me of TSR quite bit, the setting, the intense characterization, the magical elements. It's darker then TSR but has a similar feel to it.

    and this:

"the island of Thisby is its own character. "

YES! I felt the exact same way as well. If Thisby was a person she would be mysterious, wild, temperamental yet soft-spoken. And maybe a little bit scary…:)

    and this:

"He walks with a sense of purpose, always. He speaks very little. Everyone knows him. There's just something about Sean Kendrick. "

OH MY GOSH, YES. Sean Kendrick and his relationship with Corr MADE this book for me. And I am not even a "horses" type of girl, you know? LOVED IT.

And I think this is going to be the first audio book I try this year! I recently got my very own Hard copy of the book (my reading was from my local library) so I think I am going to try reading the audio and hard copy together– "pull an Asheley", if you will:)

I am SO glad you got to experience this book Ash! What a way to start off the new year!
